Hiroshima-Nagasaki Remembrance Day: A Discussion with Prominent Anti-Nuclear Activists

On August 7, 2013, Smith College hosted the annual Hiroshima-Nagasaki Remembrance Day. Founder of the American Friends Service Committee Western Massachusetts, Frances Crowe, discussed her reaction to the atomic bombs and the activism it inspired. She was followed by Anna Gyorgy, anti-nuclear activist and author of NO NUKES: Everyones Guide to Nuclear Power. She spoke of her anti-nuclear work in Germany, her response to the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings, the Fukishima nuclear incident, and the current public security measures undertaken by the US government.

Update (9/10/2013): An excerpt of Anna Gyorgy’s talk is published in article form at Common Dreams: Building a Progressive Community.
