Drone Panel and Forum in Amherst

The keynote speaker, Nick Mottern, discussed the topic of “Drones and the Death of Democracy”. Nick is the founder of the KnowDrones.com informational website and coordinator of the “Spring Days of Action 2014”, Nick has initiated a 2014 April and May international campaign to stop drone attacks and drone surveillance

  • Dr. Frank Gatti of Amherst will share with the audience why he wrote a drone resolution, describe its key components and why it should be passed.
  • Dr. Paul Voss, Associate Professor in Engineering at Smith College, will speak about “drone technology, the history of our public airspace, and current concerns about the FAA rulemaking process for unmanned aircraft”.
  • Jeff Napolitano, Program Director of American Friends Service Committee (Northampton, Massachusetts) will shed light on “The Emerging Drone Market in the US””.
  • Paki Wieland, (Northampton, MA) peace and justice activist, will share stories from drone victim families met on a delegation to Pakistan in October 2012.

A Question and Answer period and forum followed the panel. The event was moderated by events organizer Beth Adams (Leverett, MA) and Gregory Bascomb, Chair of the Amherst Human Rights Commission.
