Day of Action to Close Gitmo

On Friday, May 23, activists in the Pioneer Valley joined folks in over 40 cities across the country and the world in a public action to remind President Obama of his promise – made 1 year ago that day – to close the Guantanamo Bay prison. With 154 men still wrongfully incarcerated (76 of whom have been cleared for release), it is time to close this chapter of U.S. history. Activists converged in downtown Springfield to leaflet, march, and deliver a visual reminder to the public of the travesty of justice that is Guantanamo Bay.

Other events were posted to Twitter and Facebook under the with hashtag #Gitmoproblems. Pictures of our action in Springfield can be found on AFSC’s Facebook page.
