Voices from Fukushima, a reader’s play about the nuclear disaster in Japan in 2011, is being brought to Northampton to be performed for the first time ever in the United States. Voices will be performed on Sunday, March 13, at 2pm at Lyman Hall in First Churches, Northampton.
DATE: Sunday, March 13
PLACE: Lyman Hall, First Churches, 129 Main Street, Northampton
The play’s performance is timed to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the nuclear power tragedy at Fukushima Daiichi in northeast Japan (March 11, 2011). First performed by the Japanese No War Theater Group in August 2011, the play was translated by Nao Sakurai and edited by members of Nuclear and Carbon Free Future of Western Massachusetts. The play unfolds the story of people living with the peril and tragedy of nuclear energy, and the history of nuclear energy industry in Japan. It invites you to imagine yourself in a voluntary evacuation zone, like the residents in Fukushima, listen to the voices of the people whose lives are directly affected by nuclear energy, and discover a connection between your lifestyle and their livelihood.
